Bamff Wild Boar Forest-Reared & Free Range
Wild boar first came to Bamff in North East Perthshire, as forestry assistants, helping to create regeneration of native species in the woods.
Their digging and scratching around makes a seedbed for young trees to flourish on the forest floor. However they bred so successfully and brought such interest that they soon became a time-consuming hobby and then a small business. It is not possible to keep them without culling them and their meat is delicious, a darker more highly flavoured pork, enhanced by the fact that they live a semi-wild existence, coming in to be fed at breakfast time, then disappearing into the woods in the afternoon to forage.
